Preparation is as important as execution, that’s why you must take some steps before starting with the installation procedure. For example, have properly installed the Xampp web server on your computer.

There, among the options, you can see which one is compatible with the operating system you have installed.

Then you just have to install it. As you probably know, it is very easy because it comes with an auto installer. After it starts, the program will guide you to the end.

Once you have it installed and, with the Apache and MySQL functions started, it is time to move on to the procedure we are most interested in.

Download Joomla to install it in Xampp

Joomla offers a world of possibilities for designing and modifying a website. It can be used to create websites for different purposes. Of course, in order to use it, the first step is to download this content management system.

There are many sites on the Internet that offer versions of Joomla. However, none of them has the reliability of joomla.org. There you can download the most recent version without any problem.

A compressed file will be downloaded, in Zip format. You should save it to any folder on your PC. You will need it, but that will be later. One important thing is that, before downloading, make sure you are downloading a version that is compatible with your operating system. If not, it would be of little use to you to make the download.

Xampp folder to install Joomla

In the folder where Xampp is installed on the C drive of your computer is where the Joomla file will be unzipped. So, before doing anything else, you must create a new folder inside the folder named “htdocs”. After creating it, you can name it whatever you prefer.

For the purposes of this tutorial I will name it “Test”. Now do get the jomla files in that folder. If you have moved the Zip file to the newly created folder, just put the cursor over it and right click. Then choose the “Extract here” option.

Database install Joomla in Xampp

You need a database to perform this process. To create it, just go to the browser and copy the address where the “phpmyadmin” folder is located. You can find it on the local server. It usually looks like this: http://localhost/phpmyadmin.

It is of great importance to have this database. This folder will be the place where you will later enter all the information of your website. And thanks to it, you will be able to add or remove elements from the web page, and thus keep it in good working order.

Once entered, you must click on “New”. You must also provide a name for this database. For the purpose of this tutorial we will also call it “Test”. After clicking on the “Create” option you will see that the same system notifies you that a new database has already been created.

Install Joomla on Xampp

The time has come to install Joomla. It is very simple, you just have to locate the folder where you unzipped the Joomla file you downloaded. Of course, you must do it from a search engine by typing the following: “localhost/test”. It is simpler if you put the following path in the search engine: http://localhost/prueba

Then you just need to click on the Enter key. Now you will see a wizard, you should follow the steps below

  • Messages. You will be able to see some options for the installation being performed. Here you just click on the “Next” option.
  • Other data. You will be prompted for connection information and other options. After supplying what is required, click “Next”.
  • Installation. The installation wizard will show you the progress of the installation. This way you will know that you have successfully completed each step up to this point.
  • Database. The same installer will take care of copying the joomla database and passing it to the database you created a few steps back.
  • Continue. After you see the progress bar fill completely you will have the option to continue to the next step. Choose it.

Already by taking these steps you will have successfully installed the content manager Joomla on the C: // drive of your computer. It is time to carry out the final steps of the installation. Let’s see below what they are.

Configuring Joomla in Xampp

Now it only remains to carry out the configuration of the site. Among the options you must modify, if you wish, are the parameters and information related to the Super User. After entering the required information, it is time to move on to the final step. To access it, just click on Next.

Finally, you must delete the information related to the installation, specifically the directory. You will then be able to exit the installer by going to the public part of the site.

Although it is true that some knowledge is required to perform this process successfully, you can have very good results just by following each of the steps I have outlined for you in this article.
