Basic concepts to keep in mind

CTR

ClickThrough Rate (ClickThrough Rate) indicates the click-through rate to your page. Thus, it is the best way to measure the reach of online advertising linked to a website and thus you can improve the CTR. In Search Console(Google Webmaster Tools)you find it by entering Search Traffic ˃ Search Analytics ˃ Pages and CTR.

SERP

Which in Spanish is Search Engine Results Page, works to measure the effectiveness of your keywords and position in the search engine results. In turn, there are two types: organic and paid.

Organic Serps are the pages that have earned their position in the results by their effectiveness and time of seniority. And paid Serp’s pay the search engines (Google, Bing and Yahoo) to appear in the first places. These are the differences between SEO and SEM in case they can help you.

SEO

Known as Search Engine Optimization (Search Engine Optimization),  comprises all the processes that give greater visibility of your website in search engines. They exist to change aspects in the structure and information of your page that can be linked more quickly on users’ servers. See this complete post to know what SEO is.

HTML

It is a standard code for structuring a page and all that it includes, established by the World Wide Web Consortium or WWW Consortium. In this way, web page contents can be made compatible on different platforms (Tablet, PC, Mobile) and web operating systems (Opera, Chrome, Firefox).

How to register in Google Search Console

To start your Search Console experience or Google Webmaster Tools you must have a Google email account. Then, go to the main Google Search Console site, once there, enter the URL of the website you want to link.

Now, click “Add Site” and it will ask you to verify your domain (optional). To finish, click “Verify” and that’s it, it will redirect you to your own control panel, welcome.

In your control panel you will be able to observe figures and graphs related to the current status of the website now associated with Google. There, you will be able to monitor crawl errors, search queries and sitemaps (files that record the configuration of a URL).

That way, you can monitor if your website name is easy to locate, if your keywords are the right ones or if there are any problems entering it.

In the menu displayed on the left in Search Console, there is the “Messages” option. In it, you can associate to your Gmail account to receive notifications faster and the degree of intensity of the notifications.

Watch out for subdomains, i.e. URL’s that are detached from the main address of your website. So include every subdomain and make sure you spell them correctly or Google might treat it as a foreign site that might not even exist.

To do this, click on the “Add” option and broaden the range of best ranking Serp’s. The subdomains work as another property and you have to link them as if they were different projects than the domain.

Now, as an administrator of a website, you will have to be certain details to make everything flow correctly. Simply put, it’s like taking an oil and water test on your car, so you need to consider:

Tracking errors

In the above mentioned box in the control panel, there are three possible drawbacks that may appear on your website. One is, if Google does not reach your website because of the DNS server (they translate website names to IP codes of processors).

Other, it could be problems with your server connectivity, i.e., Google takes a while to load the website and loses it.

Most commonly, Google is coming to this URL from an external link from another web page and gets a 404 error. In this case we must do a 301 redirect to gain that strength that is being transmitted to us from that domain.

The other most common possible case is that this page has been removed from your website and Google already had it previously crawled and included in its database. In this case, a solution may be to generate a 410 error so that Google understands that the page no longer exists.

Don’t forget, mark as fixed any error that has been presented and you have solved.

Robots.txt

This is a tool that allows you to remove from the search engines any website that lacks importance to the user. However, you must take care that they are not pages that can disappear from the search engines. Keep in mind, Google will not always abide by this, but you can monitor which sites to add. Check them out by clicking on the “Crawl” option and press the “robots.txt tester” popup option.

The sitemaps

As we said earlier, it is these elements that allow us to add additional content to our website. Such are: images, presentations, audios, videos, documents, etc; they are added as XML files. In addition, they configure the way in which Google must add them to the data system to be found by users.  To review them you must click on “Crawl” and click on the pop-up option “Sitemaps.”

Optimize SEO

At this point, we are referring to the small details that make a big difference. Google itself has developed guides to help you improve the key and general aspects of your domain information. To do this, you must click on “Search Appearance” and click on the option displayed “HTML Enhancements.”

Now, you will be able to correct details such as titles and you should think not only about the length of them. You should also consider how to capture the attention of the potential user, and enter attracted by an eye-catching title. Also, it shows you if you have duplicate titles.

Another aspect is the Metadata or description of the pages which, like their titles, prevents them from being duplicated. Likewise, they make recommendations regarding their length. Finally, there are the contents that cannot be indexed, that is to say, that you cannot upload to the domain that you are managing.

Googlebots

As the icing on the cake, this tool allows you to visualize how your domain looks like in the Serp’s. Obviously, you can notice how it would be if another person in normal conditions, would take time to find to enter your page. It has two modes: quick and detailed analysis; in the first one you check connectivity details; in the second one, the visual aspects of your page.

A plus

Click on “Google Index” and select the displayed option “Content Keywords”. This way, you will get a statistic of words that Google thinks are relevant based on the pages that make up the site you manage. Remember, this only applies to content and helps you to critically consider your keywords and detect any spam.

Device search

The remaining tools concern figures and status of how your website is frequented. This comprises: devices, locations, CTR, number of visits, queries, internal and external links, etc. You can find them by clicking on the “Search Traffic” option.”
