7 reasons not to copy web content

We are always saying the goodness of SEO and what we must do to be the best SEO in Spain and the world. And in truth, all those tips, tools and tricks are real, but if we do certain things wrong, it will be useless to do all the above right.

Therefore, today it is time to say why we should not copy our competitors’ content, no matter how good it is.

Why you shouldn’t copy content from other websites?

We’re not stupid, are we, and of course, if we see good content we think, I want that content to be on my blog! There are only two problems:

  1. It’s not ours
  2. Google knows it’s not ours

Not ours

Here perhaps, you can overlook and try to make content ours that is not ours. It’s immoral, illegal and I’m sure many more things, but hopefully the creator of it doesn’t see it and everyone’s happy.

Google knows

Here friends, there’s nothing to do, and we’re so f***ed up!

We have passed our filter (the immoral and legal one) and we have copied a content as if nothing happened, but our colleague Google will not do like us. Google loves original content and for him, content is the king of SEO.

If Google itself recognizes that the biggest SEO burden is carried by content, going against it would be a bit inconsistent.

You will always be behind your competition

On the Internet, he who gives first gives twice and being the first to be original has extra rewards. To Generate quality content and new, is one of the factors that Google takes into account when it comes to give you your position in the searches.

If you’re a bad boy who wants to go against the strongest, do it the right way and don’t copy content, you’ve been warned!!!

You will go to the last positions of the search engine

It could be summed up as: “That’s just the way it is, period,” but I’m not here to say that. Google hates copycats, just like your elementary school teacher, the one who always got you.

Duplicate content in Google will make you plummet in searches, so it is important to index the content quickly with Search Console, because if a pirate copies our content before it is indexed, the one that will count as a duplicate will be ours.

Google will not take you seriously

No one takes a thief seriously, did you think Google would? Of course not!!!! Google doesn’t want thieves in their system and they will let you know, not just by treating pages that are copied badly but by treating your entire website badly.

Of course, if you’ve only copied one article, he won’t treat you as if you copy all of them, he’s not that bad a person…

It can get expensive, VERY EXPENSIVE

We are used to believing and make true the thought that if it’s on the internet, it’s free, but it’s not true. The texts, have owners and creators and although it is easy to copy them (steal them) it does not take away that they can find us and make us pay.

If you are willing to copy content, look at the conditions that put the creators, if it has copyright, copyleft, etc … you must walk with a thousand eyes before pasting content.

Be careful with links!

I’ve saved one of my favorites for last. When copying content, there are many risks and one of them is links. When you copy and paste, there is the possibility that in that text there are links to other sites, and we swallow them with “potatoes.”

In truth, more than a risk for our website, it is a benefit for others and that will also be in the same sector as ours. Therefore, if you decide to copy, look at the links it has and remove them, it’s good that you immolate yourself but do not benefit the competition.

This point is also useful for the opposite case, imagine that they copy you… it would be great if the links stayed on the website that copies your content, right?

To help with this, disguise a link in a post and always put them with absolute paths, if for some reason they decide that your content is worth copying, maybe you’re lucky, and they’ll paste your link

If you still think you should copy text from other websites, make the page itself is not indexed, this way Google will not penalize you, but you will not appear in their searches.
